Yesterday was our thanksgiving and pledge Sunday at church. And there was a sermon about money. A couple of things stuck in my head from it. Especially considering 'my one word'...
number one
"Nowhere, does the Bible promise that wealth will give any kind of security." - Daf MJ
A bit of a wake up call for someone who is quite scared at the thought of possibly not being able to find a job in a few months time, and who is constantly thinking "ah if I only I had a bit more money my life would be so much better". IT'S. NOT. TRUE.
number two
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." (-Matthew 6:24)
On number two I have a question: I get the whole "if I love money then I inevitably 'hate' God-thing." But if I love God, do I inevitably 'hate' money? On the whole, no. Why not? Should I? What does that look like? We do need money in one way or another after all... dont we?
and something else Daf said which reminded me of the following video
"God has given us money so that we might use it in a way that will show the world that money is not our treasure, Christ is."
-I've posted this up before but it keeps coming up lately. It's awesome! :)
The sermon audio should be up on this page pretty soon.
