On life as a graduate...

Lots of things are going on at the moment which is a good thing as I'm happy being busy.

What I've been doing over the past couple of months:
1. Working at Johnston Press in Human Resources was great - I worked there for two months through August and September and eventually had probably been to 6 or 7 interviews, and had been offered not one, but 2 jobs! Wow I couldn't believe it - God is good!

2. Online volunteer translating for the UN, I came across this opportunity via the UCLan futures twitter service and it was great in terms of experience, and really interesting in content. I translated two projects - one which was award nominations for other online volunteers who had helped projects in the Congo, and another which was an article for a newsletter about someone else's experience as an online volunteer. I'll hopefully get more opportunities to work with them in the future, and hopefully get enough experience to them maybe start getting paid to do translations.

3. Zumba - the craze that seems to be sweeping the nation - i'd never even heard of until a few weeks ago and now it's everywhere I go! I've been to a couple of classes now which, whilst being very sweaty and quite embaressing, are also hilariously fun! I am seriously hoping and trying to lose weight now - I am all out of excuses!

What's coming up over the next few weeks/months/years:
1. I do finally have a job - hooray and thank you Jesus. :) It's maternity cover for 8 months which will take me to June 2012 as an administrator for an organisation that run military style training courses for teenagers who are interested in joining the armed forced. Should be interesting and I'm looking forward to starting on 17th October.

2. I've got the amazing privilege of doing the North West Partnership evening training course this year which is running from my church in Preston. The North West Partnership (in case you're not from around here or haven't heard of it) is a network of bible believing, reformed churches, that put on various events and training and give general support to one another I think, with the aim of building up the church and equipping Christians to lead (in different ways) within their local churches. In the evening course we're covering different things like a bible overview and how to handle the bible and give talks - I have two separate ones to give before Christmas, each from a different passage in 1 Thessalonians. I'm simultaneously quite excited and scared about that!

3. I'm training to do something called Street Pastors which has the vision of sending the church onto the streets and sharing God's love both practically and verbally with the people we meet there. There's lots of great practical training to go through first but it's been really helpful and eye-opening so far - I feel like I was very naive about... well, life in general I guess, before hearing a lot of these sessions. So it's great and I can't wait to get out there - it's an opportunity that I feel like God has brought along at just the right time and I hope that I'll both be able to give a lot to it, and get a lot out of it.

Lots of other things going on too like meeting Jehovah's witnesses, one to ones and international students at church but maybe I'll leave them for another post. I'm off to the Northern Women's Convention tomorrow - or today I guess :S, and the Northern Evangelists Conference on Thursday. What a privilege to be in a country where we're free to meet and sing and study the Bible together!

Also, just finished reading No Compromise - the life story of Keith Green for the second time in my life and it was brilliant. Can't recommend it enough - he loved Jesus so much and is a massive massive inspiration to Christians everywhere. You should definitely read it!
