Genius!
So off i poddled to www.freeclassicaudiobooks.com and www.freechristianaudiobooks.com ... they're pretty much the same website I figured. But I have got myself the life stories of St Patrick and William Carey, and Pilgrim's Progress AND War of the Worlds ... for free ... on my ipod. :D
So I actually went for a spontaneous walk! There is the photographic evidence to prove it... my dog Jess's head poking over the sea wall to check out the "fast-receding" shoreline of the JURASSIC coast!
I started off with St Patrick but it was a text-to-audio thing so it was quite jerky and hard to listen to... so I moved on to Pilgrim's Progress instead as it's a proper voice... maybe when I've got used to that I can move on to St Patrick because he does quite intrigue me...
Pilgrim's Progress then.... bit of a legend of a book. I can see why people draw comparisons between it and 'The Shack', but it is INFINTELY better, because whilst the Shack causes all this controversy which I don't know what to think about really... it was a good book as far as novels go, but can't be taken so easily as an allegory as Pilgrim's Progress can, because PP is all backed up with the Bible (as the woman who reads it makes clear by reading out all of the Bible references that go with pretty much every other sentence lol!)
Anyhow... I'm enjoying getting through Pilgrim's Progress in this way, I've read a kids adaptation before, but never the original. I quite like classical literature now though so it's not too strenuous on my little head in that respect anyway :)
