So today...
Was kind of I guess my first day on my own after I moved into my apartment, so i decided to go and do something exciting on my own. be daring and go somewhere new...on my own!
So I went to le musée royale de l'afrique centrale at Tervuren. It was quite interesting and I made some notes for potential dissertation research... I'm not sure what to do it on but the issues with the Congo being an ex-belgian colony are quite interesting.
Other than that display though...which was in two of about 15 rooms and took me about an hour to look round and understand properly... there were lots of masks and... kind of stuffed animals...but i hope they weren't actually stuffed, just fake. And there was a very big ugly preserved fish in a tank which was a bit vile.
Life in my new apartment is good... I'm quite enjoying having time on my own again anyway. I'm currently reading two books... i realise i haven't updated the books im reading bit on here for quite a while. I finished the time traveller's wife and i capture the castle, and i'm now reading through gates of splendour by elisabeth elliot, and shantaram, by gregory david someone, which my flatmate has lent me (it is english though...no fear!)
I also went with Lucy today to look round another apartment, sadly though... like so many other perfectly decent belgian apartments, it was spoiled by having it's shower... in the kitchen. It's quiiite a bizarre cultural thing i think. and today's example was actually a very nice shower with a curved glass door and like...multiple shower heads and what not... but still... multiple shower heads don't really make up for it being IN THE KITCHEN. whyyyyyyyyyyy?!?!
Other news... i'm in a bit of a pickle about what to do for my internet now... at the moment im at tim and emily's, and i CAN get internet in my room, but it's someone elses...hmm. and my flatmates are quite happy to piggyback on this other persons internet... so don't want to set anything else up. But it feels a bit like stealing really... and it'll only go really slowly anyway with loads of people using it and... yeah. so i might actually take back what i said to my parents about dongle's being too expensive and try that... or look into trying to set up a normal belgian internet thing myself... but ooooooooh the complications!! lol! :(
never mind. that is all for now.
thanks for reading - xx

Through Gates of Splendour is one of my alltime fave books!
ReplyDeleteAll this stuff about what goes on in kitchens on the continent is weird - in Prague apparently people sleep in the kitchen! Fortunately nothing quite so bizarre happens out here in Greece. I think...
