I felt it was about time i updated on here with a bloog about like so far in the Belgian capital. (sorry i haven't got round to it before...its a bit crazy hectic!)
So we got here last Thursday via eurostar (me and lucy that is) and we're staying with the team leaders here and their 3 kids... which is really nice! I've never lived with or had much chance to hang out with kids much so it's nice now im used to it :)
I've just found myself an apartment which is on a road called avenue de la couronne (couronne = crown) so its nice.. and if u walk all the way up it you get to the palace... eventually..its a very long road, and turns into avenue de la trone before you get to it actually. but anyway... its really nice.... unfurnished though unfortunately...but am trying to collect bits and pieces from around...i.e. found a desk outside someones house yesterday which we've scavenged. :D Um it's on the third floor of a huge terraced house...really lovely i think anyway... and will be sharing with two belgian students, a boy and a girl. and its got an OVEN!! which is a bit of a rarity so im told so...woop woop! :D AND the landlord is really nice too. :)
What else have we been up to? Went into the city centre on monday with a girl/lady who is workihng at the IBB here (Institut Biblique Belge) and saw a few of the sights and i had some frites et mayonaise (belgian speciality). We also went to get Mobib cards this morning for the transport system. They're kind of like Oyster cards in london... but they work on the trams and buses too... and once you scan them, they're good for an hour. So at the moment its got 10 journeys on it... and you have to scan it every time you change transport... but it only takes one journey off, per hour you scan it... if that makes sense? I really like it anyway... i was pretty petrified of having to find my way on the public transport here but its a million times easier than anything in Britain. And really clean and regular too! :D
I went to this church on Sunday: http://www.protestants-bruxelles.be/ which was really nice... am going to go to a couple more though before i decide where i'll be settling. :)
So anyhow... praise God for this apartment I've found, and for the people I've met so far. We've got a meeting tomorrow with the General Secretary of the movement here to sort out more what we'll actually be doing once the term is back in full swing and everything so plese pray for that. And please pray that I will be focussed on what I'm here to be doing... not just being bowled over by just living in another country.. and all the french speaking...or missing people back home.
www.uclancu.co.uk CU back home are doing internationals and freshers weeks this week and next so please pray for them too, that they'd have enough money to cover all the events, and people to help out... and people coming along. And that the Gospel would be proclaimed really clearly and students would be bold in inviting strangers and friends and talking about Jesus.
:) much love xx

thanks for this blog! I'll enjoy keeping up with it - Please say hi to the team. chrisoldfield@gmail.com (CUSW in London)
ReplyDeleteps I'm also scoping out the possibilities for uccf summer/easter mission team for 2010 - whether francophone or english speaking, have a think with Tim & Emily and let me know if there's any way that might be helpful. No worries if not. we're with you in prayer.
Hi Mim, thanks for the blog - it'll be good to follow your news. And hang on, you have an OVEN??? God is being good to you :) If you settle at Woluwe church, next time there's a church lunch, make them a fruit crumble in your oven and say it comes with my love thrown in. They were most distressed that I couldn't make them crumble without an oven. Did you meet Fabrice & Sylviane in the bookshop? They're worth getting to know - a wonderful couple.
ReplyDeletehey thqnks for your comments... sorry i only just found them (and i cant find the exclamation mark on this broken french keyboard..sorry) i am enjoying the wonders of having an oven, lucy has one too now in her studio. :) and i will def let tim and emily no bout the possibility of a mission team :D excitement:D :D
