What a GREAT name for a Christian organisation. One of the things that stands out to me from my year in Belgium is a sermon I heard at church one Sunday morning about the power and compassion of Jesus. (la puissance et la compassion... it rhymes!) And Christians are meant to be a kind of mini-Christ aren't we?
I'm just so excited because I just made a decision to sponsor a child with them and this is her. Her name is Nyiransabiman Divine, she lives in Rwanda and is five years old.
I'm not posting this to make you think, wow she's so godly! (FAR from it) Or to try to guilt you into doing the same. But because 1) I am SO excited, I feel like I just got a little sister. and 2) Because Compassion IS a great organisation and it would be cool if you took a look at the website www.compassionuk.org and thought about whether it might be something God wants you to do.
It's something I've thought about doing for a few years and just never wanted to commit to it, but over the past few days quite a few things have happened or I've read things that have challenged me to actually DO it. Especially Francis Chan in this 'Crazy Love' book I posted about yesterday. He writes:
"LUKEWARM people give money to charity and to the church ... as long as it doesn't impinge on their standard of living. If they have a little extra and it is easy and safe to give, they do so. After all, God loves a cheerful giver, right?"
And he quoted loads of passages from the Bible, but these especially made me think:
"As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. 'I tell you the truth', he said, 'this poor widow has put in more that all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on'""
and later this verse from 1 Chronicles 29:14:
"But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand."
My money is God's money and I waste SO much of it. I want to be one of those people who really are willing to give up everything for Him so for me, this was just a little step towards doing more of that, for Him.

Praise the Lord! This will be an amazing journey, no doubt. Our 7th Compassion Child, Kazihizina, is from Rwanda. I have heard that the kids in Rwanda are only able to write quarterly, but please be faithful in your letters to her. Those letters are what reach into the children's hearts and let them know they are loved and worthy. I share letter writing tips and tricks on my blog. You can also find ideas and other UK sponsors on www.ourcompassion.org
ReplyDeletehey thanks! I wrote a letter and was actually struggling a bit to know what to say so that will be really useful! :) xx
