Why Does Jesus Love Us? (part 1)

There may be more to come on this, but here are a couple of quotes I've noted down from 'Mirror, Mirror' by Graham Beynon.

"The old church father Augustine said it well: 'God loves you as though you are the only person in the world, and he loves everyone the way he loves you.' And he loved you like that, knowing all about you. And so there can never be a time when God says, 'That sin is too bad,' or, 'That sin has been committed once too often.'"

"The sixteenth century reformer Martin Luther wrote about how God delighted in those who trusted in Jesus:

If faith in Christ is present, he is delighted at my beauty which he himself has conferred on me. Therefore I ought not to doubt that I am altogether lovely for the sake of Christ"

Not that it's got anything to do with our being instrinsically delightful or lovely, but it rests on what we are in Christ."

'Mirror, Mirror' is one of my favourite Christian books, dealing with the whole issue of image and self esteem and how we should feel about ourselves as Christians. I would definitely recommend it, you can buy it from amazon here.
