Yesterday, myself and Lucy went with the general secretary of the GBU (Erwin) to check out where we're going next month for the GBU camp. It's a MANSION I tell you! Apparently, Erwin reckons, Belgium has the highest number of "chateaux" per square km or square mile, than any other country, either in Europe or the world. I don't know where outside of Europe there could be a country that might beat it, but anyway. It is VERY nice. And we ate cupcakes and cookies (the people that run it are Americans :)) and drew plans of where the rooms are and how many beds are in each etc. We also met up with and took with us two of the staff from Ichtus, the dutch-speaking IFES movement in Belgium with whom we are running the camp. This resulted in some fun melange-ment of French, Dutch and English which gave us a taste of what the actual camp is going to be like, with hopefully somewhere between 80-90 students from both movements!
The chateau is beauuuutiful, it was kind of misty and absolutely freezing, but it kind of suited where we were! They even have this "tour" in the grounds which we went to investigate, Erwin having been before knew where the key was stashed, although it was already unlocked.
It was really cool inside, a tiny steep spiral staircase, broken and dirty windows, creepers growing in through cracks everywhere... i just LOVED it ALL. We decided it's like where Rapunzel should live! It reminded me of the bit in the house in 'The Secret Garden' that's been left to get all run down and stuff... ahh I just love it!
Until... on trying to get to the very top, we found a (presumably considering the amount of noise we were making) dead fox (or "renard"). I've never seen a fox so close up before, and even though I knew it was there and went to check it out, couldn't help but have a little scream because the stairs were so steep, it was suddenly right in front of my face pretty much! Hopefully it will have gone by the time we go for the camp (19th-21st February).
